Life in the UK

We ran a series of lessons to help refugees/migrants revise the ‘text’ books which have been authorised and constantly updated by the Home Office  to prepare participants  for the test.   The text book was the ‘Life in the UK: A Guide for New Residents: 3rd edition Handbook’. The lessons included English lessons and series of mock tests. We  hired an experienced and qualified individual to deliver the project. The project was delivered by running a prearranged weekly lessons for a year and was open to all refugees and migrants who are eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK or apply for British citizenship.

Virtual Come Dine With Me For Refugees: Covid19

July 2020 we been funded by big lottery

To help alleviate loneliness and social isolation during the current pandemic, and to encourage healthy eating, we are currently   running a project for 6 months to help around vulnerable members to socialise, cook a healthy meal, share the same meal sitting at a table with others in a virtual setting.

We recruited a sessional worker with catering experience who can speak most common languages of beneficiaries, someone who knows target group and has lived experience of similar issues.

By buying food in bulk to keep costs low, then making up meals in individual reusable boxes, delivered locally by the project worker in their car using social distancing on delivery, along with an invitation to virtual lunch or dinner with 4-6 others each week.
.

Each virtual meal will be led by the worker, and joined by a volunteer from the local community, this will support integration by sharing covid-19 experiences and information. They will help form meaningful friendships that can extend beyond the project and into the community when restrictions lift.
